SeaWorld San Antonio’s popular 150 foot Steel Eel roller coaster is the tallest ride in the park and has been thrilling guests since its opening date in 1999. The Steel Eel, along with the park’s Great White inverted roller coaster, are the two major thrill rides at SeaWorld San Antonio and two of the largest roller coasters in Texas. The ride was custom built to fit into a narrow stretch of land beside SeaWorld San Antonio’s lake. The roller coaster features two trains with six cars per train, and each train has a capacity for up to 36 riders. The trains on Steel Eel’s one minute, forty second ride reach a speed of 65 miles per hour as they negotiate exciting drops, swoops and turns, including a first drop of 150 feet.
The Steel Eel is popular with older children, teens and adults (the ride has a minimum height requirement of 48 inches). Loose articles are not permitted on the Steel Eel, so they may be left with a non-rider or in a locker for a nominal fee. Due to the popularity of the ride, guests should take advantage of the shorter queues in the first few hours of park opening. SeaWorld San Antonio offers a ‘Quick Queue’ pass for an additional fee, where guests have one-time priority access to the Steel Eel as well as select other attractions in the park. The ‘Quick Queue Unlimited’ version of the pass provides unlimited access to all of the park’s popular rides.
